Vestibular Therapy (a type of physical therapy that targeted to help strengthen the pathways from your inner ear to your balance systems) is often recommended.

Vestibular Therapy may include some of the following activities:

  • Because the eyes are a gateway to inner ear function, we use Infrared Video Goggles which allow us to track and see eye movement and assess vestibular function. It helps provide us with critical information toward accurate diagnosis and treatment of your condition.

  • Visual tracking exercises to train oculomotor (eye)  functions and it's communication to your inner ear, this is called the vestibular-ocular reflex (VOR).

  •  Exercises emphasizing proprioception (how our joints communicate with our systems of balance) through static and dynamic balance exercise on various surface textures and variable stabilities.

  • Habituation exercises to reduce motion sensitivity and dizziness through repeated exposure to specific movements or visual stimuli

  • In cases where BPPV exists, performing canalith repositioning maneuvers followed by habituation exercises.

  • Exercises that combine hand-eye coordination, balance maintenance, and gaze stability

  • All can be and can be combined with general conditioning exercises to the extent tolerated by your general health.

  • In the cases of neck involvement, pain, and spasms, treatment may also include manual mobilization and stretching of the upper cervical segments, postural retraining, and exercise to diminish the muscle spasms and guarding and restore normal mobility to the neck
