What is Physical Therapy?

Line separator

Physical therapists are movement experts who improve quality of life through prescribed exercise, hands-on care, and patient education.

Physical therapists diagnose and treat individuals of all ages, from newborns to people at the end of life. Many patients have injuries, disabilities, or other health conditions that need treatment. But PTs also care for people who simply want to become healthier and to prevent future problems.

After schooling, physical therapists will often specialize in certain areas of focus such as orthopedic conditions, neurological conditions, cardiac or pediatric conditions.

Physical therapists examine each person and then develops a treatment plan to improve their ability to move, reduce or manage pain, restore function, and prevent disability.

What level of education do Physical Therapists require?

To become a physical therapist, one most complete all pre-requisite work required of the DPT program. Most programs require applicants to earn a bachelor's degree prior to admission. Other programs offer a 3+3 curricular format in which three years of specific bachelor courses must be taken before the student can advance into a three-year professional DPT program. Typical length of schooling is a total of 6 to 7 years.

To practice as a physical therapist in the U.S., you must earn a doctor of physical therapy degree (DPT) from a Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education-accredited physical therapist education program and pass a state licensure exam.

Further specialization such an Orthopedic Clinical Specialist (OCS), Neurological Clinical Specialists (NCS), and others require additional work and educational experience, and rigorous testing to commit to board specialization.

This level of education and commitment make physical therapists experts at movements dysfunctions and trained to help with you achieve your goals!

Why are you a mobile service?

A common barrier to care is the inability to get to find qualified providers, wait around for weeks to schedule and appointment and drive to an office. All while trying to schedule appointments around kids scheduling and work hours! We know how overwhelming and frustrating it can be! We strive to provide care that expert at treating your condition, convenient around your schedule, and comes to you because we know how difficult it can be to take care of yourself while juggling all of your daily tasks!

We believe that to best help serve you, we work with you directly in your home to see the challenges you are facing in your daily environment rather than trying to stimulate them in a clinic. We are able to see those challenges you face daily, such as the height and width of your stairs, the difficult transition from the driveway to the front door, your work and ergonomic posture at your home office.

For those outside of our travel distance, we provide telemedicine (virtual) physical therapy appointment to all of New Jersey! We want our expert services available to anyone who needs them.

We are an outpatient clinic that comes to your home and not a home care agency. If you are homebound, you qualify for home care services. If this sounds like you, we will be happy to discuss and refer you to an agency more suited to your direct needs and care.

When approaching the end of the plan of care (the recommended episode of physical therapy visits from the initial evaluation), Dr. Julie Gray will reassess and make recommendations that best suite what you need. Options may include continuation of skilled physical therapy, discharge to your independent home program, follow-ups monthly or quarterly, or transition into our wellness services. We work with you as a team to discuss the options that are best suited to transitioning to independent management of your condition.

For those who wish to transition to a gym setting after completion of their physical therapy plan of care, we have partnered with Versus Fitness in Jackson, NJ. This aims to help you transition back into an exercise routine in a safe and effective model. In this way, Dr. Julie Gray can assess your mobility and body mechanics to reduce compensation and injury and work towards progressing you into independence in your work outs.

We understand that there are those who may not feel comfortable in a gym or fitness setting. So, we provide a solution! For full continuum of care, after discharging from skilled physical therapy services, we provide wellness services to you in the comfort and safety of your home.  Wellness services include addressing your generalized health,  wellness, and fitness needs. We provide updates to home programs based on the gains you make over time and aim to achieve the fitness goals desired by our clients.
